Allergy Skin Testing
Using tiny pricks, a small amount of allergens are introduced under the skin, to identify an allergic reaction to common allergens such as pollen, dust mists, insects, animals, food, mold, and latex. In older children, adolescents, and adults, intradermal testing (injecting a small amount of allergen under the skin) may be suggested for complete allergy diagnosis.
Allergy Tablets (Sublingual Immunotherapy)
Subcutaneous immunotherapy is provided by placing a FDA-approved allergen tablet under the tongue. This cost of these tablets is covered by most insurance plans. After the first dose is administered in the office, the tablets are taken at home. All patients taking sublingual immunotherapy tablets must have a prescription for epinephrine. These sublingual tablets are different than non-FDA-approved sublingual drops that are not covered by insurance. Sublingual immunotherapy is most effective for patients with very few allergies.
Allergy Shots (Subcutaneous Immunotherapy)
Allergy shots, also known as immunotherapy, are the most effective allergy treatments in Las Vegas. Allergy shots introduce known allergens (animal dander, pollen, mold, and dust mite) in small doses over a period of time, allowing the immune system to become less sensitive and reactive to them. Immunotherapy is disease modifying, not just symptom management from medications. Allergy immunotherapy naturally trains your immune system to stop fighting your environment. Most patients notice symptoms improvement within 6-9 months of starting allergy shots. Allergy immunotherapy injections are helpful for hay fever, asthma, and eczema. Completion of allergy shots is an investment in your health and well-being that lasts for years.
Drug Testing
The Allergy and Asthma Center tests and challenges for penicillin allergy and local anesthetic (lidocaine) allergy concerns. A detailed history regarding your other medication or vaccination concerns may reveal that testing is not necessary. In some of those cases, a supervised, in-office drug or vaccine challenge may be an alternative to testing. Testing for most drugs and vaccines is limited by several factors including availability of the product for testing and the reliability of testing.
Food Allergy Testing
Food allergy testing may involve skin pricks or blood tests. These tests are highly useful in determining which foods cause an exaggerated immune response. In office oral food challenges are another helpful tool to diagnose as well as to determine outgrowth of food allergies.

We are pleased to offer NOBreath FeNO monitor testing. This advanced diagnostic tool measures fractional exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO) levels, providing valuable insights into your respiratory health and helping us tailor your treatment plan more effectively. By incorporating this non-invasive testing into your care, we aim to enhance our understanding of your condition and improve your overall management.
Insect Sting Immunotherapy (Venom and Imported Fire Ant)
Immunotherapy to common insect venoms and imported fire ant can protect those with severe allergies to insect stings. Tiny amounts are injected over time to desensitize the immune system, preventing potentially life-threatening reactions.
Food Oral Immunotherapy (OIT)
Oral immunotherapy (OIT) refers to feeding an allergic individual an increasing amount of an allergen with the goal of increasing the threshold that triggers a reaction (desensitization). For the majority of patients, OIT does not cure their food allergies. OIT does not eliminate the need to avoid food allergens or to carry epinephrine. Palforzia (peanut allergen powder-dnfp) is currently the only FDA-approved OIT. However, OIT with numerous other foods, including store-bought peanut protein sources has been shown to be effective in multiple studies. OIT is not offered at the Allergy and Asthma Center at this time.
Spirometry
The Allergy and Asthma Center of Las Vegas employs spirometry to assess lung function in those with known or suspected asthma. Spirometry measures the amount and speed at which air is inhaled and exhaled.
Skin Patch Testing
Skin patch testing is used to determine the cause of allergic contact dermatitis (ACD). Common culprits of allergic contact dermatitis are metals, fragrances, and other chemicals in personal care products. ACD may occur with any product (even if used for years) and on any part of the body. Common areas of the body affected by ACD include the hands and the face, including the eyelids. Patch testing introduces allergenic chemical substances to the skin, which are then covered and taped in place. Follow-up appointments to examine the sites for signs of contact dermatitis (irritation, redness, and swelling) help to determine allergic reactions. After testing is completed, education on the offending chemicals are provided and, if available, safe alternatives will be suggested.
