Dr. Jason Bellak Featured on News 3: Barry Manilow Interview
Expert Insights on Respiratory Health When legendary Las Vegas headliner Barry Manilow recently shared his lung cancer diagnosis, it served as a powerful reminder of the importance of preventative screenings. Following the announcement, our own Dr. Jason Bellak, a dual board-certified allergy and immunology specialist, sat down with News 3’s Tiffany Lane to discuss the critical signs that patients should never ignore.
The Barry Manilow Case: Beyond Bronchitis Barry Manilow’s diagnosis was discovered almost by accident; after a bout of bronchitis, an MRI revealed a cancerous spot on his left lung. Dr. Bellak notes that many serious conditions can mimic common respiratory issues like allergies or bronchitis. During the interview, he emphasizes that while every patient’s case is unique, persistent symptoms are the primary “red flag” that necessitates deeper investigation.
When to Seek a Professional Evaluation Dr. Bellak provides a clear timeline for when a lingering cough should lead you to a specialist:
-
2–3 Weeks: A typical cold or case of bronchitis should begin to resolve within a couple of weeks. If a cough persists beyond three weeks, it warrants an additional medical evaluation.
-
2 Months or Longer: If a cough lasts for two months, Dr. Bellak strongly recommends diagnostic imaging, such as a chest X-ray or MRI, to rule out more serious underlying causes.
